Join us for the London premiere of artist Jill Magid’s bold first feature The Proposal. The film chronicles the stages of the artist’s headline-grabbing project The Barragán Archives, which seeks to return the work of Mexico’s most famous architect, Luis Barragán, to the public eye.
In 1995 Barragán’s whole professional archive was purchased and gifted, in place of an engagement ring, to architectural historian Federica Zanco. It has since remained in Switzerland, inaccessible.
The Proposal unfolds through a series of letters between Magid and Zanco, in which their shared passion inspires a surprising friendship. Culminating in an ambitious proposal, Magid confronts complex questions of national heritage and repatriation, art’s financial and symbolic value, private versus public ownership, and what Barragán's legacy really means.
