Join rule breaker and renowned artist and composer Matthew Herbert to see how far you can get with an apple. This experimental evening of sonic exploration will draw on both Herbert's and Cezanne's fascination with the apple. You can expect to crunch apples, be sampled, make music and discover the social stories and significance of the apple. As the first thing Matthew Herbert ever sampled and a recurring motif in Cezanne’s work, this interactive evening will play with new forms of sonic language and promises to be full of bite!
‘With an apple, I will astonish Paris’ is a claim once made by Cezanne. This quote opens the exhibition currently on display at Tate Modern. Through his paintings, many of which are still lifes of apples, Cezanne gave licence to a whole generation of artists to break the rules.
This event takes inspiration from Cezanne's practice but will not discuss his work.
Matthew Herbert will be joined by friends and collaborators Lee Patterson, Max Porter, Polly Russell and Hugh Jones.
The event will be filmed and livestreamed. Tune in below if you were unable to get a ticket:
