Taking inspiration from Mira Schendel’s exhibition this drawing course explores the use of text and writing in art. Schendel experimented with techniques of transferring and layering to create delicate, subtle inscriptions that often blurred the distinction between the drawn and written mark.
Course participants use a variety of drawing techniques including the use of: pencil, ink, water colour, sgraffito, mono-print, collage, and transferring methods using graphite and Letraset.
Drawing activities take place in the galleries, including a visit to the Paul Klee exhibition as well as working in the permanent displays. Materials provided, no previous experience in drawing is required.
Kelly Chorpening is an artist who explores the relationship between drawing and writing in her own work. Kelly has been the Course Leader of BA (Hons) Drawing at Camberwell College of Arts since 2006.
