Join curator Achim Borchardt-Hume, Head of Exhibitions at Tate Modern, for an hour-long tour of Richard Tuttle’s Turbine Hall commission I Don’t Know . The Weave of Textile Language. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about this newly commissioned sculpture which combines vast swathes of fabrics designed by the artist from both man-made and natural fibres in three bold and brilliant colours.
Richard Tuttle came to prominence in the 1960s as part of a generation of post-minimalist artists and is known for his delicate, small scale works and use of everyday, ephemeral materials. His work has often been described as being in a state of ‘in between’, moving between sculpture, painting, poetry and drawing, avoiding categorisation.
This event coincides with the Richard Tuttle: The Weave of Textile Language exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery last autumn, as well as his commission in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall on display until 6 April 2015.
