Performed to Maurice Ravel’s iconic orchestral piece Boléro, the duet is an excerpt from Duboc’s 1996 Trois Boléros.
Duboc described Charmatz and Huynh’s performance as having ‘something of abandon and sweetness, of attraction and desire, and of fusion and tearing away.’
boléro 2 inspired Charmatz and Huynh’s étrangler le temps which is also performed on the Turbine Hall ramp earlier in the day as part of a special weekend programme developed for Tate. Both pieces are presented as a counterpoint to the vast collective performance of 10000 Gestures.
