Join artist Chris Evans at Liverpool Biennial founder and art collector James Moores’s home. Visitors will be seated in a room with an artwork by Irish artist Pádraig Timoney from Moores's collection, while a conversation around the work between invited curators, writers and artists will take place in a separate room. The audience will follow this discussion via a live transmission. Speakers will include: Will Holder, typographer; Lucy MacDonald, curator; Richard Parry, Curator, Grundy Art Gallery; Marina Vishmidt, writer; and Vanessa Boni, Public Programmes Curator, Liverpool Biennial.
Chris Evans is an artist whose work evolves through conversations with people from various walks of life. He has conducted similar discussions with a number of different people: from the directors of a leading champagne house to a former member of the British Constructivists and the CEO of a Texas pharmaceutical company. Sculptures, letters, drawings, film scripts and unusual social situations are created as a result of these talks, exploring how Evans deliberately confuses the roles of artist and patron, genius and muse.
I don't know if I've explained myself is the first event as part of Thinking City, an exciting new partnership between Liverpool Biennial, Tate Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University. Thinking City will present a new programme of monthly public discussions which will take place in various locations around Liverpool.
Thinking City imagines the role art and culture can have in thinking about the future of the city. Artist-led events will address matters such as urban dwelling, place, community networks and domesticity, while also considering how cultural and educational organisations connect with their public and their city.
This event takes place in the curator's house, the location of which will be revealed by e-mail after you book.
