During World AIDS Day 2018 Sahir House hosted a UK AIDS Memorial Quilt Trail in Liverpool, exhibiting five of the UK AIDS Memorial Quilts in four Liverpool City Centre venues. If you missed the Trail you can see one of the panels, which remembers Keith Haring, in Tate Exchange along with images and films looking at the history of HIV on Merseyside over the past 30 years.
The UK AIDS Memorial Quilt tells the stories of lives lost in the early days of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It is a unique and irreplaceable historical document comprised of 48 12x12 foot panels, each made up of eight smaller panels. The smaller panels commemorate someone who died of AIDS and have been lovingly made by their friends, lovers and families.
The quilt reminds us how far we’ve come in the fight against HIV – it no longer has to stop anyone living a long and healthy life – but there is still much to be done.
