Our connection to the land has formed nations, boundaries and communities. It has formed theories, crisis, wars, nourishment and belonging. This symposium, which will take place at Liverpool Hope University, will reflect the themes of our Radical Landscapes exhibition.
This is an opportunity to explore artist/academics' responses to our relationship with rural landscapes. It will draw on a range of artistic forms and academic debate. We will uncover the politics of trespass and destructive/constructive land use. We will look at people’s untiring fascination with the call of nature. Such discussions can only take place while acknowledging the encroaching climate crisis. There is a duty to act now. What needs to be done? What radical approaches do artists and academics have to offer?
