Join the Liverpool Mozart Quartet at Tate Liverpool, in the An Imagined Museum Exhibition on the 4th floor gallery, for a live performance of Haydn’s String Quartet in 4 Movements.
Haydn – String Quartet No.61 in D minor, Op.76 No.2, “Fifths”
·
Allegro
·
Andante o più tosto allegretto
·
Menuetto: Allegro ma non troppo
·
Vivace assai
The ensemble consists of the four principal string players of the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra: Andrew Winter, Ellie Gaynard (violins), Tom Dickinson (viola) and Jonathan Stone (cello).
The inspiration for this piece is the painting “Strings and Piano” by Marsha Hammel, which has personal memories for cellist Jonathan Stone. He received a print of this painting, together with a copy of the sheet music for Haydn’s Op.76 quartets, from a friend for his 21st birthday. Jonathan has happy memories of first playing the “Fifths” quartet in his room at Cambridge, with the print on the wall, whilst enduring comments from his fellow players on how he reminded them of the cellist in the painting; he will forever associate these two works together. Visit Tate Liverpool as Jonathan enacts the cellist’s part in the painting, playing live in the gallery.
After an absence of 20 years the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra returns to Liverpool. Their ‘coming home’ concert will take place on Saturday 12th March at the The Capstone Theatre, Liverpool Hope University Creative Campus, 17 Shaw Street, Liverpool, L6 1HP.
