From fairy tales, folktales, mythology, legends and fables; storytelling conveys events in words, and images, often by improvisation or embellishment. Stories or narratives have been shared in every culture as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation, or instilling moral and cultural values. Visual art has always been closely associated with storytelling by using plots, characters and narratives to illustrate allegories for religious or historical subject matter. On this tour discover new stories on display in the Tate collection.
