This Show and Tell will focus on photography in the Tate Archive from the collections of women artists.
Spanning several generations and a range of artistic concerns this event will include photographs taken by Eileen Agar during her travels abroad and around the UK, the photo albums of Vanessa Bell and Barbara Ker-Seymer, portraits of contemporary artists by Anne-Katrin Purkiss and agitprop by socialist feminist photography collective Hackney Flashers. The use of photography as a tool for making and documenting sculpture and painting will also be explored including photographs from the collections of Barbara Hepworth and Prunella Clough.
This event will include an artist talk by Anne-Katrin Purkiss at 13.00.
Selected by Nastasia Alberti (assistant archive curator), Federica Beretta (archive coordinator) and Victoria Jenkins (assistant archive curator).
About the Show and Tell Programme
The Show and Tell programme invites visitors to explore highlights from the Library and Archive collections. Previous highlights have included letters, sketchbooks, artists’ books, catalogues, ephemera, photographs, and other special collections.
Each month’s display is curated to a specific theme or collection and includes a guided talk from the Library and Archive team, as well as occasional guest talks and performances. Show and Tell displays provide a unique viewing and handling experience highlighting art and ideas found in the Library and Archive collections.
