The programme launches with a double bill of two rarely seen early works directed by Isaac Julien. The experimental documentary Territories 1984–5 lays out a visual and narrative manifesto for the collective while Who Killed Colin Roach? 1983 poignantly documents the true story of a young man's suspicious death at the hands of the police. Like the bird for which Sankofa is named, timely public re-emergence of these seminal films resonate strongly with current socio-political events.
