Join artist Sadie Murdoch for a practical course exploring how Paula Rego revolutionised the representation of women through a range of media. The course will consider ideas around 'the female gaze' and the connection between touch and seeing. The relationship between what is tangible and what is visible is a key part of both Rego and Murdoch's practice. This will be investigated through experimenting with collage, acrylic paint and ink. Alongside hands on activity, you can expect to engage in thought provoking discussion as together we think through the relevance and resonance of Rego's work for a new generation of practitioners today.
The course will start with a visit to the Paula Rego exhibition at Tate Britain on Monday 20 September, 17.00–19.00. The course is then divided into a choice of two sessions held at Chelsea College of Arts: Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 September, 10.00–16.00, or Thursday 23 and Friday 24 September, 10.00–16.00.
Some prior knowledge or experience of art is useful but not required.
