What is the role of a curator? What are the decisions, strategies and approaches that inform and shape the work of museum curators today? How do they negotiate the wide range of cultural, socio-political and economic factors in which they operate?
Over eleven weeks, go behind-the-scenes at Tate to learn about collecting strategies, display practices, exhibition-making and learning programmes through the lens of the key research and debates shaping curatorial practice today. The sessions will be led by an external tutor and include presentations by Tate curators, readings, group discussion and digital content.
No prior knowledge of art history or museum studies necessary. Participants will be joined by MA students from the Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries at King’s College London.
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus situation, this course will be offered online in closed video conferencing sessions for a limited number of participants. The greatest care has been taken to ensure that remote courses will provide the same content, quality and intended learning outcomes as in-person teaching.
