4 rooms in Art Around the Building
For this Djanogly Café commission, France-Lise McGurn reflects on motherhood, children, city life and intimacy
She says, ‘The particular bodily contortion that ceiling painting requires made me think about the shifting physicality of painting, dancing and parenting.’ The title of the commission is taken from the name of a building in Glasgow containing office, retail and warehouse spaces, a gym, café and medical and wellbeing centres. The complex advertises with slogans such as ‘Where the city comes to you’ and ’More than a workplace’. McGurn says these ‘promote a utopian/dystopian industrial shared workplace ‘experience’ in ultra grey. I want to create a piece which will see the ceiling become a "Skypark", however that might look.'
