Tate in Space Student Architecture Competition

Members of the public were invited to enter an open submission competition to design a proposal for the new Tate in Space. Whilst conceived of as a student competition we welcomed entries from all age groups and countries. The winning and shortlisted entries are displayed on this site.

 
The Competition

Each entrant was invited to supply the following:

  • one plan for a (downloadable) model of the new Tate which can be distributed online and assembled 'at home' by visitors to the site. In (Adobe Acrobat) PDF format, the plan should be able to be printed out on A4 paper or card.
  • one jpeg photo of completed model
  • one jpeg or gif 'visualisation' of the new Tate
  • a 500 word (maximum) synopsis of your idea
  • 125 words (maximum) of biographical information

The deadline for entries was 20 January 2003.

The Judging

Entries were received from seven countries and the judging took place during February 2003.
The judges were Susan Collins (Director: Tate in Space), Dr Andrew Coates (Space Scientist, Mullard Space Science Laboratory, University College London), Sarah Wigglesworth (architect) and Jemima Rellie (Director of Digital programmes, Tate).
