  • Get Into Colour

Go on a colour trail around your classroom, school or playground. You decide whether you stay in one place or move around together. Think of it like a treasure hunt, where the treasure is colour.

Look for things in every colour of the rainbow, one by one. Decide how many things you want to find in each colour. You could collect the objects together, draw them, photograph them or simply point them out.

At other times of the year this activity might look quite different, so try it again next term – what new colours do you discover?

    Share Your Colours

Take turns talking about the colours and objects you found.

    Prompts

    • How do the colours make you feel?
    • Explore one colour in detail or describe how your feelings about a colour change depending on the object
    • Which is your favourite colour, and which don’t you like?
    • What image jumps into your mind when you see a particular colour?

Together, make a treasure chest filled with your colourful objects!

How To Use 10 Minute Challenges

These ten-minute challenges are fun, energising and inclusive activities for teachers, pupils and whole school communities. Find new ways to support your pupils to see their world from different perspectives, be playful with their ideas and develop a curiosity about art.

    1. Prepare
    • All you need is what’s around you: your body, your peers and your space!
    • You could project the illustration in your classroom and/or print off copies for your students to have in front of them for inspiration.

    2. Challenge (10 minutes)

    • Try out the activity in your classroom, playground, or assembly room. Get as many people involved as you can – students, teachers and teaching assistants, carers, and everyone else around your school.
    • Come back together as a group and share what you've experienced. How else can you use art to shake up your day?
