The Housewarming Party is a free event to celebrate the reopening of Tate Britain. In the recently transformed galleries, Tate will host an extraordinary evening of live music, performance, film, talks, special artist commissions, workshops and games.
Event highlights include:
- Alexis Taylor of the famed British techno pop band Hot Chip will get the party started with an electropop DJ set
- Celebrated guitarist, James Blackshaw, will bring his intelligent, hypnotic and emotional sound to the gallery in a live acoustic set
- Leading British artist, Keith Coventry, has created a free limited edition print for visitors to commemorate the Housewarming Party. He will also be signing a limited number of the prints at the party
- Salon London, London’s leading cultural showcase of speakers from the worlds of science, the arts and psychology, brings together physicist David Tong, food historian Leonie Sooke, and musician Juliet Russell to explore the concept of time with a series of compelling talks in the stunning new Grand Saloon
- Award-winning fashion designer Emma Yeo will be running an exclusive fashion workshop where visitors will be able to make sculptural headdresses to wear
- Kino, London’s one and only open-mic film night, will be screening films inspired by Tate Britain’s collection and made in a 48-hour film challenge
- There will be a treasure hunt around the gallery with prizes for winners including Tate Memberships, exhibition tickets and more
- Composer and sound artist Claudia Molitor will create an immersive soundscape performed alongside Britain’s leading contemporary music ensemble, EXAUDI.
Tate Britain’s innovative new weekly film programme, Assembly, will launch at the Housewarming Party with a presentation of short films each involving coded narratives and evocative settings. Screenings include: Melanie Smith Xitila 2010; Matthew Noel-Tod Castle 3.0 2010-2013; Bonnie Camplin Terrezzo 2008; Shezad Dawood A Mystery Play 2010; and Sarah Pucill Magic Mirror 2013.
There will also be special talks including alternative tours of the collection, such as Queer Britannia with Michael Langan of Polari Magazine, and a display of hidden treasures from Tate Library and Archive collections. Throughout the event there will be activities for children and families of all ages, poetry and spoken word performances, and much more.
