On the last Thursday of every month Tate Liverpool opens its doors until 21.00 for an evening of the very best art, music, performance, food, drink and socialising. On Thursday 31 July (18.00 – 21.00) this month’s Klimt-inspired Late at Tate, entitled Attention to Detail, offers visitors the opportunity to sample the sumptuousness of the belle époque with a contemporary twist. Late at Tate promises a luxurious evening, with a complimentary glass of Perrier-Jouët champagne for each guest and a stunning performance of Viennese music by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
On this evening watch a free screening of the new Terrence Turner film Adele’s Wish (2008), depicting the story behind one of the world’s most famous paintings - Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I (1907) by Gustav Klimt. Including a discussion with the director, the screening will take place in the Auditorium from 19.30 – 21.00 and is free, although booking is recommended. This month Tate Liverpool also hosts a very special performance of the documentary play Coffee with the Wittgensteins followed by a question and answer session with Margaret Stonborough, great granddaughter of Karl Wittgenstein, a major patron of Klimt and the Viennese Secession. This performance runs from 18.00 - 19.45 and tickets are priced at £10, £8 (concessions) and £6 (members), including free entry to the exhibition.
This Late at Tate continues the turn-of-the-century tradition of the salon, bringing people together with an inspiring host who, through conversation and entertainment, broadens knowledge and understanding of a specialist subject. This month, musicologists Peter Franklyn and Gavin Plumley host a unique salon entitled The Golden Touch, where musical illustrations from the life and times of Gustav Klimt punctuate a discussion on the synthesis of art, literature and music in Vienna 1900. Later in the evening, musicians from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the music of Schreker, Schonberg, Zemlinsky and Strauss along with other key Viennese composers explored as part of the salon. The Golden Touch runs from 18.00 - 19.30 and tickets cost £7, £5.50 (concessions), £4 (members), including free entry into the exhibition.
