Join Tate Liverpool for the final instalment of the popular Klimt-inspired Late at Tate events: Night of Bling. Christoph Grunenberg, Director of Tate Liverpool and co-curator of the exhibition, famously said, ‘Liverpool is very Bling and Klimt is very Bling’. So, in true Liverpool fashion, this month’s event gives visitors the opportunity to experience a dazzling and eclectic night of the very best in art, music and entertainment at Tate.
Night of Bling includes the final to our Salon Series, a compelling tour by Tobias G. Natter - renowned Klimt expert and co-curator of the exhibition, and a free screening of the Raul Ruiz film Klimt (2006) starring John Malkovich. The evening will be accompanied by the scintillating vocals of award-winning cabaret artist Camille O’Sullivan - fresh from Glastonbury and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The Liverpool Samba School punctuate the evening with glamorous dance recitals throughout the Gallery.
Continuing the Austrian tradition of the Salon, where inspiring hosts are brought together to increase understanding of a specialist subject through entertainment and stimulating discussion, this month’s salon, Cradle to the Grave, sees experts Peter Vergo from the University of Essex (a leading expert in Viennese Art of the period), Pamela Robinson (Senior Curator of the Whistler and Mackintosh collections at the Huntarian Gallery in Glasgow) and Alan Crawford (author of the superb illustrated study of the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh), discuss the parallels between the British Arts and Crafts movement and the Wiener Werkstätte. Cradle to the Grave runs from 18.00 - 19.30 and tickets cost £10, £8.50 (concessions), £4 (members), including free entry into the exhibition.
From 20.00 in the Tate foyer the enchanting chanteuse Camille O’Sullivan completes the evening with a cabaret performance of the music of artists such as Jacques Brel, Nick Cave and Tom Waits. Following five star sell-out seasons in Sydney, New York, Edinburgh, Brighton, Adelaide and Melbourne, this award-winning show promises to be one of the highlights of the evening.
