Late at Tate: Fool Spectrum

On Thursday 2 July Tate Liverpool opens its doors until 21.00 and invites visitors to join an evening of performance, spectacle and the very best modern and contemporary art. Late at Tate returns with an exciting array of interactive activities and live performances in Fool Spectrum, a multi-coloured festival of performance art responding to the exhibition Colour Chart: Reinventing Colour, 1950 to Today. Fool Spectrum is produced by Hope Street Limited in partnership with Tate Liverpool and directed by Cocoloco, a theatre company who love the bizarre and its relationship with everyday life. The café will serve an exclusive Fool Spectrum early evening menu, featuring new mouth-watering dishes inspired by the exhibition. For this evening only, buy two courses and receive a complimentary glass of wine. Advance booking is necessary, call 0151 702 7580 to book your table and quote ‘Fool Spectrum’.

Colour Chart explores how artist’s use of paint began to change after the mid 20th Century, when notions of colour as emotive, spiritual or scientific were replaced by an accessible commercial product. The symbolism of the artist’s palette was displaced in favour of the spontaneity of the colours used in everyday life. To reflect these chance encounters with colour, Fool Spectrum performances will interpret the exhibition through surprising interventions throughout Tate Liverpool. Performance artists will appear in unexpected places in the galleries, foyer and Albert Dock, enhanced by sound, film and digital design. The colourful theatrics, directed by internationally-renowned street theatre and performance company Cocoloco in collaboration with Hope Street Limited, will feature over 40 performers - including high-profile artists from the UK and Europe as well as local community groups and young people. With joint expertise in physical theatre, carnival arts and a love of the uncanny, performances promise to be an exciting and entertaining addition to the Colour Chart experience.
