Design and Construction Team Appointed for New Development of Tate Modern

Tate has announced the design and construction team for the new development of Tate Modern:

Architect; Herzog & de Meuron

Cost Consultant; Davis Langdon

Structural and Façade Engineers; Ramboll Whitbybird

Mechanical and Electrical Engineer; Max Fordham LLP

Construction Manager; Mace

CDM Coordinator; Cyril Sweett

Project Manager; Gardiner & Theobald

Landscape Architects; Vogt

The new development will create a spectacular new building adjoining Tate Modern to the south, on the foundation of the former power station’s oil tanks. This will be Britain’s most important new building for culture since the creation of the Royal National Theatre in 1976 and the British Library in 1998. The new building will increase Tate Modern’s size by 60% adding approximately 21,000 square metres of new space.

Work is expected to start on site in mid 2009 and it is hoped that the new building will be completed in time for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012,

Deputy Director of Tate, Alex Beard, said: We are delighted with the appointments to the Transforming Tate Modern project team. We have a world-class team in place and with the recent funding announcement from Government, we are moving successfully into a new phase for the project.
