This picture is of Simpkin the cat, looking curiously down the alley. He doesn’t mind the cold under his paws!</p><p><br></p><p>This is a painting in pen and watercolour by Helen Beatrix Potter. You may have heard of her because she wrote The Tale of Peter Rabbit. You might even have read her books yourself! She is famous for her long-eared rabbit in the blue jacket, but this painting of Simpkin was one of her favourites. It first came out in 1902, in a limited edition of 400 copies. Compare this to the best-selling book of all time, The Bible, which has over 5 billion copies printed and sold! </p></p></section><section><h3>Your Winter Wonderland is out in the snow!</h3><p><p>You love the sound of snow crunching beneath your feet and catching snowflakes on your tongue! When winter arrives, you run to the wardrobe to dig out your gloves to help you make your snowman... </p><p><br></p><p>This painting is called White Ice by Anya Gallaccio. It started off as a photograph that she manipulated on a computer and made into a screenprint. It is an abstract picture, and we think the top looks like snow hanging down from the branches of a tree. What do you think it is of? Anya Gallaccio is now famous for her artworks that include flowers, sugar and even chocolate!</p></p></section><section><h3>Winter schminter. When the cold creeps in, you’ll be on the other side of the planet!</h3><p><p>As soon as summer starts to fade, you think about where else in the world you could go. You want to be by a pool somewhere, stretched out on a beach towel and drinking from a coconut! </p><p><br></p><p>This painting is called A Bigger Splash by David Hockney. It shows a big splash in a swimming pool in California. He discovered that there it is so warm all year round that everybody has a swimming pool! This painting is full of colour and makes you dream of faraway places. </p></p></section><section><h3>Your Winter Wonderland is dancing at the Winter Ball!</h3><p><p>Bring out those moves you’ve saved all year and wow everyone with your nifty routine! This winter we can find you anywhere the music plays. </p><p><br></p><p>This painting is called The Dance. It’s by the Portuguese-born British artist Paula Rego. The dance floor is a beach at night, and the moon is their disco ball! Some people think the building in the top right corner of the painting might be a fort on the coast in Lisbon, which is where Paula Rego was born.
