As part of a collaboration with Tate Collectives, The Great British Art Debate has been delving into the world of workshops and inviting 16-25 year olds to join us in a range of creative activity within the gallery.

Two weeks ago, we did just that, and created a Tate Labs where the worlds of analogue and digital photography were allowed to collide with some fabulous results.

Led by Cyrus Mahboubian, a photographer who’s been working in Polaroid and 35 mm film since 2006, groups were encouraged to take insipration from the Tate collection and contemplate their own identity as artists before being let loose in Tate Britain’s grounds to create a range of effects on Polaroid film. Some more weird and wild than we could ever have imagined!

Whilst others made use of  photographic props to create poetic colour blurs combining the real world with layers of reflection.

The day culminated with each group presenting their best work of the day, attached to boards with an accompanying narrative to lead viewers through a visual story told frame by frame.
