Ten Minute Challenge A Door To Your Future Self

Start by learning about the work of artist Sonia Boyce. With your students consider ideas of belonging and what it means to feel welcome or excluded.

Ask your students to come up with ideas for places they can’t imagine inhabiting. What doors would they like opened to them? Whether a dream job, a new experience, or going to the moon, encourage their imagination and ambition.

Repeat

Ask students to imagine a different future self every morning. How might they share these ideas with each other in new ways?

Adapt

Suggest that students think about someone who inspires them. What one question would they like to ask them? How would their future selves answer that question?

Extend

Make a display in your classroom with an image of every student. Around them, gather all the ideas they each came up with for their multiple future possibilities to keep the excitement alive.
