These rough sketches show the Karlskirche, a baroque church located on the Karlsplatz in Vienna. The Karlskirche was built for Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor, and designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, a favoured architect of the Habsburgs. The lower left sketch extends onto the folio opposite (Tate D31424; Turner Bequest CCCXI 5).
