Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Turner has rendered two rough views of Vienna, both of which continue onto the folio opposite (Tate D31422; Turner Bequest CCCXI 4). A palace appears to be at left in the upper view, with trees in the middle and a tower at right. The view below may have been taken from the Danube.
The remaining sketches were produced with the sketchbook turned horizontally and show mountain scenery and a church tower, with illegible inscriptions.
