J.M.W. Turner: Sketchbooks, Drawings and Watercolours

An incomplete sketch of the façade of the Friedrichsbau at Heidelberg Castle is at right. The outline and one bay of the Otto-Heinrichbau completes the view. Built over centuries by various prince-electors of the Palatinate, the Otto-Heinrichbau of Heidelberg Castle was erected as the residence of Elector Otto Henry (1502–59), while the Friedrichsbau was the wing constructed for Frederick V of the Palatinate (1596–1632).
