Drawn with the page turned horizontally, this loose ‘carriage sketch’ of mountains could have been made on the north-eastward journey anywhere between Trieste and Vienna (see respectively under folios 57 recto and 40 recto; D30109, D30076). The prominent but effectively illegible word above it is likely a place name.
Technical notes:
There is staining towards the top left and right from the leather pencil loops secured under the front paste-down (D41222).
