With the page turned horizontally both ways, there are three Venice waterfront views here. Ian Warrell has noted the sketches within a short sequence of Canale della Giudecca subjects (folios 6 verso–9 recto; D31288–D31293).1 The rapid, somewhat cursory treatment of the various domes, campanili and other selected details makes precise identifications and orientations uncertain.
As noted in the sketchbook’s Introduction, the Venice views on its early pages are intermingled with German sketches from Turner’s return journey.
