Here Turner has rendered two views of Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.
The main drawing shows the eastern end of the Børsgade with Copenhagen Stock Exchange (Børsen) at left, Christianborg Palace, Christian IV Bridge beyond and Holmens Church at right. The Børsen was built by Christian IV in 1619–40 and is celebrated for its striking spire: an elegantly tapering coil comprised of four dragons tails twined together reaching a needle-sharp point.
The other sketch shows the Knippelsbro and Holmens Church on the banks of the Børsgraven canal.
