Here Turner depicts the Ducal Castle at Stettin. Taken from a north-easterly vantage point, the view also encompasses the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul and Church of Saint James. At top left the artist has drawn a separate sketch of Stettin, rendered inversely to the principal view.
For other sketches of Stettin see Tate D31083–D31093, D31095–D31106; Turner Bequest CCCVII 32a–37a, 38a–44.
