These views of Dresden were taken from the northern shore of the Elbe and are rendered inversely to one another. Visible in both views is the Frauenkirche, Kreuzkirche, Cathedral and Castle. Boatmen navigate a narrow vessel down the Elbe, away from the Augustus Bridge under which Turner has inscribed ‘10’ to signify the number of its arches.
