This is a study of Schloss Weesenstein, a castle in the Mueglitz Valley located to the south of Dresden. Set among wooded hillside and Italianate formal gardens, Weesenstein was for centuries the countryseat of the Saxon kings. The rest of the castle tower extends onto the folio opposite (Tate D30913; Turner Bequest CCCVI 15a).
