This is Schloss Weesenstein, a castle in the Mueglitz Valley located to the south of Dresden. Set among wooded hillside and Italianate formal gardens, Weesenstein was for centuries the country seat of the Saxon kings. See also Tate D30901–D30916; Turner Bequest CCCVI 9a–17.
A view of Dresden is rendered beneath the sketch of Schloss Weesenstein. It extends onto the folio opposite (Tate D30904; Turner Bequest CCCVI 11). The drawing was taken from the gardens on the upper level of the Zwinger, looking out towards the Bridge, Hofkirche, Wall Pavilion and Schloss.
