These rough sketches were probably taken whilst Turner was on the road, travelling by carriage from Dresden towards Teplitz (modern day Teplice in the Czech Republic). The artist has dashed off a town or road with hills in the distance. Cursory figures are rendered in the foreground.
A separate sketch of hillside at right is a continuation of one large view begun on the folio opposite (Tate D30312; Turner Bequest CCCI 9).
