This slight but evocative view shows the Saxon city of Dresden from the banks of the River Elbe. In the foreground a boatman can be seen navigating his vessel along the still waters, and in the distance the city’s Kreuzkirche and domed Frauenkirche can be seen. Turner has used quick vertical hatching and single strokes of the pencil to render reflections on the river.
