This rapid study shows the sails of three windmills together with other structures, perhaps on the Channel coast near Folkestone (see under folio 5 verso; D35496). There is a more distant view on folio 6 verso opposite (D35498); see the sketchbook’s Introduction for the many slight coastal views scattered through it.
Technical notes:
There is some brown staining at the gutter, possibly indicating water damage in the 1928 Tate flood.
