This inside cover of the sketchbook bears the endorsements of Turner’s executors. In ink, Henry Scott Trimmer signed the top right-hand corner of the page and inscribed it, ‘No 269 | 57 leaves of | pencil sketches’. Just below, John Prescott Knight and Sir Charles Eastlake left their initials in pencil. The latter also noted ‘56 leaves | 57 counting wrapper’.
The slight studies of shipping featured here are typical of much of this sketchbook’s contents. For more information, see the sketchbook Introduction.
In his 1909 inventory of the Turner Bequest, A.J. Finberg did not give this inside front cover a number.1
