Technical notes:
Except at the edges, the sheet is severely faded from exposure. Finberg notes that it was ‘withdrawn from Loan Collection on account of blue fading in exposed parts’,1 but it unclear which of the touring selections from the Turner Bequest is meant; compare the fading to Tate D03632, D03633 and D03635–D03638 (Turner Bequest LX A, B, D, E, F, G), all of which have suffered for similar reasons.
1
Finberg 1909, I, p.161.
Verso:
As recorded by Finberg,1 there is a faint ‘pencil drawing of mountains, &c.’, with trees and cottages beside water, although it has not been assigned a separate Tate ‘D’ accession number.
