As Finberg noted,1 this is based on a drawing in the 1801 Scotch Lakes sketchbook (Tate D03025–D03026; Turner Bequest LVI 57a–58). An untraced finished watercolour was probably the work exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1802 (377);2 see the entry for Tate D03394 (Turner Bequest LVIII 15).
