Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, the subject is continued on folio 51 recto opposite (D02682). The Bass Rock appears again on folios 58 verso–59 recto, 59 verso–60 recto and 60 verso–61 recto (D02697–D02702). Turner was to make several images of it after his journey to Scotland in 1821.
