Crammed together so that at first sight they read as a single image, these two quickly drawn studies are in fact separate, though they presumably record features of the same vessel. They concentrate on particular details of a small boat, notably the rudder and halyards.
Technical notes:
A vertical 30 mm tear from towards the right of the lower edge has been repaired.
Verso:
Blank; inscribed by Turner in brown ink ‘103’ descending vertically on the remaining portion of a vellum label towards the gutter (see the technical notes in the sketchbook’s Introduction).
