With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner worked a loose vignette of an urban scene with a domed edifice into the centre of this page. Although this drawing is too cursory to identify a definite location, the sketches in this volume feature several views of the domed military complex of Les Invalides on Paris’s left bank. Turner made several sketches of the building in the present volume, a list of which is provided in the sketchbook Introduction for comparison.
