With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with a study of a street close to the Palais du Luxembourg on Paris’s left bank. On the left-hand side of the page can be seen the classical edifice of the Théâtre de l’Odéon. Turner has been careful to note the uppermost course of oeil-de-boeuf windows on the façade and the distinctive glimpse of the roof’s pitch to the rear.
