Other drawings of Caerphilly are on D01636, D01639, and probably D01640 (Turner Bequest XLI 8, 10a, 11) in this sketchbook. This view shows the famous ‘Leaning Tower’ at the south-east corner of the castle, with to its left the southern wall, the postern gate at its centre. In the foreground are the overgrown ramparts of the dam that contained the southern defensive lake.
Technical notes:
There is some damage to the sheet at the top centre.

Blank; inscribed in a later hand in pencil ‘43’; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
