Turner has taken this slight sketch from a high viewpoint in the Enderbach valley, affording him an excellent panorama of Cochem and its landmarks. The tower of the Church of Saint Martin is in the middle distance towards the left and in the distance at right, the ruins of the Reichsburg crowning a conical mount.
For further depictions of Cochem in this sketchbook see Tate D28359–D28361, D28363; Turner Bequest CCXC 5–6, 7.
