Rendered in faint and slight line Turner has drawn a hilly landscape parallel to the short edge of the page. The principal sketches are of Ehrenbreitstein, taken from the Petersburg at Koblenz, with the monument to the French Revolutionary General François Séverin Marceau-Desgraviers (1769–1796) in the foreground (see Tate D28316; Turner Bequest CCLXXXIX 13a). These are orientated inversely relative to the foliation.
