This rough drawing of the city of Namur from the old commune of Saint-Servais is likely related to a sketch on folio12 recto (D28065; Turner Bequest CCLXXXVII 12 a). With swift jagged line Turner renders the basic impression of the topography of the river valley, incorporating the baroque dome of Namur’s Saint-Aubin Cathedral at centre. The artist has inscribed the name of the Meuse tributary, the ‘Sambre’ river, at the bottom.
