Turner drew Wakefield Bridge with its chantry in his North of England sketchbook (Tate D00915; Turner Bequest XXXIV 10); this is an enlargement of the principal outlines of that view, presumably made in preparation for the finished watercolour that Turner developed from his sketch (British Museum, London).1
